Break the PoE 100 meter limit, with no extenders or repeaters

Understanding PoE Switches Made Easy

Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches offer direct power supply to compatible devices via the Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for a local power source. These PoE switches deliver power to network devices like access points, surveillance cameras, IP phones, lighting, and various IoT devices. Furthermore, they excel in prioritizing and optimizing PoE power allocations, ensuring optimal performance for critical network devices. Explore the benefits of PoE switches for seamless power delivery in your network infrastructure.

Disadvantages of Power over ethernet (PoE)

While PoE offers numerous advantages, its downside involves a distance constraint—limited to 100 meters for UTP cable in both IEEE 802.3af (PoE) and IEEE 802.3at (PoE+). Furthermore, PoE switches command a higher price than standard switches, resulting in a slightly increased initial investment.

Stretching Ethernet Networks Beyond 100 Meters Using PoE Extenders
EtherWAN has developed Power over Link (PoL) technology, enabling the simultaneous transmission of power and data over a single pair of wires. Remarkably, PoL functions seamlessly with traditional phone lines or coaxial cables, delivering up to 30 Watts of power to end devices like IP cameras, controllers, and access points over a distance of 1.2 kilometers (0.75 miles).

PoE Scheduling

Running PoE-powered devices 24/7 poses challenges, including energy waste and security risks. Vulnerabilities in devices like wireless access points left "always on" are addressed by restricting access after business hours. Security measures optimize cost and energy efficiency by automating the shutdown of non-security-sensitive devices, minimizing unnecessary power consumption, and enhancing overall operational efficiency.

PoE Watchdog

Enhance your surveillance system's reliability with PoE Watchdog, ensuring uninterrupted operation by automatically monitoring and rebooting powered devices in case of camera failures. Eliminate downtime uncertainty, reduce troubleshooting urgency and frequency, and invest in a proactive solution for enhanced system performance and peace of mind.

Difference between PoE and PoE+

The initial PoE standard, known as IEEE 802.3af, facilitated the transmission of 15.4 watts of power per switch port. After accounting for cable resistance losses, each PD was assured a minimum of 12.95 watts. In 2009, the IEEE 802.3at standard, or PoE+, was introduced, doubling the power per port to 30 watts. The latest standard, IEEE 802.3bt (PoE++), was recently established, enabling an impressive 90 watts of power delivery.

PoE Transmission over 250 Meters

Overcome the common challenge of cable length limitations in IP surveillance setups with EtherWAN's PoE switches. Experience an extended PoE range of up to 250 meters, doubling the standard 100-meter limit. Activate Extend Mode effortlessly, allowing a single PoE port to support longer transmission distances without additional hardware or complex configurations. Enhance your surveillance solution with a cost-effective and user-friendly approach to extend PoE reach, ensuring flexibility and efficiency in your field site installations.

Note :

When PoE extended mode is enabled, please also set the end device to “force-10Mbps full duplex” to cooperate with the switch. It is suggested to pre-test the function before deployment. The maximum available transmission distance of PoE depends on the negotiation result of PD and PSE. Some PDs using EtherWAN PoE/PSE switches may only support a standard distance of 100 meters. Contact EtherWAN if assistance is needed.
