FAQ

How to stop a client receiving the IPv4 multicasts generated by a server based on the following network scenario?

Answer:

By default, all three switches have IGMP Passive enabled, which means every single port on these three switches are able to receive the IPv4 multicasts generated by the Server as shown above. Figure-1 shows the capture of multicast traffic generated by the Server on the Client laptop.

Figure-1

To stop receiving the IPv4 multicasts generated by the Server, simply un-tick (remove) the switch-port “G1” from the IGMP Passive group on EX77964A, as shown in Figure-2.

Notes:

  1. The switch-port “G7” on EX77964B is the RSTP alternate port which blocks any data traffic including IPv4 multicasts.
  2. The result will be the same if the switch-port “G2” from the IGMP Passive group on EX73000 is removed instead of removing the switch-port “G1” from the IGMP Passive group on EX77964A.
